It has been highly anticipated for a long time and it is finally here: Untethered jailbreak for Apple’s A5 devices, iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Yes, that is untethered; as Locutus explained earlier, untethered jailbreak is the good type of jailbreak — you can reboot your device normally after doing it, as opposed to tethered jailbreak which requires you to reboot your device using your computer.
The jailbreak is brought to us by a newly formed “iOS Hacking Dream Team” and hosted by the people at GreenPois0n. I don’t own an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 so I cannot provide directions on how to use it but if history is any indication, GreenPois0n Absinthe A5 will be very easy to use.
Take note GreenPois0n Absinthe A5 Untethered Jailbreak currently works with iPhone 4S on iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1 and iPad 2 on 5.0.1. In the future when iOS 5.0.2 is released, you will lose your jailbreak by upgrading, at which point you will have to wait until a jailbreak for iOS 5.0.2 is conjured.
You can get started by grabbing GreenPois0n Absinthe A5 from the links below; there are versions out for Windows and Mac OS X with a version for Linux promised “soon”:
Disclaimer: Jailbreaking voids your warranty. Jailbreak your device at your own risk. Ashraf and dotTech are not responsible for any gain or loss incurred (including but not limited to bricked devices) as a result of jailbreaking.
