Apple was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. One of its founders, Steve Wozniak, has proclaimed Apple ruined Siri after acquiring it. Last month Wozniak was at a race track to attend a meeting with a horse named after him (uh…). After said meeting, Wozniak had a talk with attendees; he had quite a bit to say about Siri.
Wozniak proclaimed when he first used Siri, prior to Apple buying the app, Steve was extremely impressed by it, telling people “this was the future”. He claims Siri was able to handle almost anything he through at it:
“I would say, ‘Siri, what are the five largest lakes in California?’ and it would come up, one, two, three, four, five.
And I would ask ‘What are the prime numbers greater than 87?’ and they would come up all in a row. That was pretty incredible.”
Woz enjoyed how Siri made users feel like “you’re talking to a human” and how well it conducted web searches and understood human speech. For Woz, Siri “was the greatest program”. Then Apple bought it.
According to Woz, Apple attempted to improve Siri but only left it less functional and more bloated. The end result, Siri on iPhone 4S, was “very disappoint[ing]”. Woz even gave Siri a thumbs down — literally.
I wonder what Woz thinks of Google Now. Given his tendency for public outbursts, I’m sure we will find out very soon. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
