In 2008, a deadly earthquake hit the southwestern province of China, Sichuan. Tens of thousands were killed and thousands went missing. This past weekend, the province was hit with another massive earthquake, killing 186 people and sending almost 8,200 to the hospitals.

After the devastation, Apple’s Chinese website updated with a message of condolence for all those affected by the disaster. Better yet, the company also announced that it would be making a donation of 50 million RMB or around $8 million to the victims of the earthquake. They will also be providing new Apple devices to the schools in the affected area.

Aside from the cash donation to help the affected people to tide over their difficulties, we are committed to providing new Apple devices to schools in the disaster area, and Apple employees in the locality are on stand-by at any time to help.

Apple has made an effort to donate regularly when disasters like this recent earthquake hit. It’s a respectable gesture, and hopefully it continues when natural calamities inevitably strike again in the future.
