Panasonic’s Lumix GH4 is the first mirrorless camera to shoot 4K video

Panasonic’s newly announced Lumix GH4 will be the first interchangeable lens mirrorless camera that can shoot 4K video. Its predecessor the GH3 was already praised for its stellar video capabilities, so this new high resolution option is the logical next step. The GH4 can shoot 4K video at either 24 or 30 frames per second.

Other additions include a new quad-core processor, which will allow the camera to shoot up to 12 frames per second and up to 25,600 ISO. The OLED EVF has been improved over the GH3’s, and the OLED monitor can tilt and swivel in a variety of directions. Videographers will be glad to know that the GH4 still has a 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone jack and video output via Micro HDMI. It will  support WiFi, NFC and a downloadable app that lets you use your smartphone as remote.

Panasonic did not announce pricing or a release date for the Lumix GH4, but considering that the GH3 was priced at $1299.99, the GH4 will most likely be very similar in price. Coming in at well under $2000, the GH4 represents one of the most affordable ways to get a 4K capable device. And that’s just one of its features.
