Jailbreak users have gone a long while without a proper untethered solution for their iPhone 5 and iOS 6 devices, but a new jailbreak developer team called the “Evad3rs” have released the long-awaited jailbreak for those devices. The team isn’t new to the scene by any stretch, and includes many of the top jailbreak authors.
Their jailbreak, called evasi0n, is a completely untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, and all devices running iOS 6, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1. The Apple TV isn’t included, but a jailbreak for the 2nd generation of those devices is expected soon. The 3rd generation, however, is not yet susceptible to jailbreaking.
Like other recent jailbreaks, the process of jailbreaking here is fairly simple. No more holding your home button and lock button at the same time and counting a bunch of seconds — just follow the simple instructions in the program and let it do its job and you should have a jailbroken device in a matter of minutes.
And if there was any doubt that people still cared about jailbreaks, or were even waiting for this to come out, these statistics should help put things in perspective: evasi0n was downloaded over 100,000 times in the first ten minutes of availability. The site was also being slammed with over 270,000 active users, downloading over a terabyte of data from their servers in the first minutes.
As of posting time, the site seems to now be accessible. So if you’ve been wanting to jailbreak your iPhone 5 or iOS 6 device, hit up the link below! You can also read dotTech’s guide on how to jailbreak your iOS 6.x device.
